Seapine Software, Inc., a provider of software development life cycle management solutions, announced the availability of Surround SCM, the company's cross-platform software change management solution. Surround SCM is designed to provide control over source code changes to software development teams that require remote access, integrated defect tracking, and advanced branching and merging capabilities, without sacrificing price or ease-of-use.
Surround SCM is a cross-platform solution with client and server support on Solaris, Linux, Microsoft Windows, and Mac OS X operating systems. Graphic user interface clients are available on all supported operating systems. For distributed development teams, Surround SCM should transparently support remote access over TCP/IP networks, including the Internet.
According to the company, Surround SCM's branching and merging features are comparable to products costing more than twice its price. Using Surround SCM, development teams should be able to model their development and build processes to ensure changes are managed at each stage of a project. For example, each engineer should be able to work within their own workspace, isolated from each team member's changes, but still take advantage of the benefits of a client/server source code repository.
Surround SCM is also designed to be a replacement for Microsoft Visual SourceSafe and integrate fully into Microsoft's popular development IDEs - Visual Studio 6 and Visual Studio .Net. To help customers make an easy transition, Seapine includes a migration program to move files and their change history from Visual SourceSafe into Surround SCM. And, Seapine's competitive upgrade is priced equivalent to a SourceSafe version upgrade, which may make it easy to justify moving to Surround SCM. Surround SCM is available to customers worldwide through Seapine Partners, Authorized Resellers and Seapine Software at www.seapine.com. Surround SCM is priced at $495 for a single named user license. Surround SCM is also available in a bundle with TestTrack Pro for an additional $100 per license. Competitive upgrades are also available.
