Much of the open-source OpenStack cloud platform is written in the Python programming language, but it doesn't necessarily need to be that way, according to Intel. Intel is now pushing its vision for cloud orchestration in OpenStack, using the Go language.
The new Go-based project is called CIAO, or Cloud Integrated Advanced Orchestrator, and is a potential replacement or optional component for existing orchestration in OpenStack.
In a video interview, Jonathan Donaldson, VP and GM, Software Defined Infrastructure Group at Intel, explained the goals behind CIAO and other similar efforts that his group builds, including Snaps, Clear Linux and Clear containers.
"Fragmentation is not something we're interested in creating," Donaldson said. "Things like CIAO and clear containers are there to help drive innovation forward."
