We often hear people talk about the 'Path' and the 'Environment'. These are the Environment Variables settings. It will be important during some software installations that you check and possibly add to or edit the Environment Variables.

          We often hear people talk about the "Path" and the "Environment".  These are the Environment Variables settings.  It will be important during some software installations that you check and possibly add to or edit the Environment Variables.

          You can also make those changes through (somewhat) normal means, which are listed below.

          To access and edit the Environment Variables, perform the following steps:

           Go to the "My Computer" icon and right click, drop to properties and go to the Advanced tab:

 

          The middle section is devoted to Environment Variables.  Click the tab to enter this screen, it will look like:

 

 

          One interesting note is that I am running Windows 2000 and the OS is listed as Windows _NT.

          To edit any of these, click the edit button once you have highlighted the setting and you will be presented with:

 

          Here is where you make the edits.
