Antares Microsystems, a provider of I/O adapters, and LSI Logic Corporation, announced the availability of its Antares P0078 Ultra320 SCSI host bus adapter (HBA). The P0078 uses the LSI Logic Fusion-MPT (Message Passing Technology) based Ultra320 SCSI controller, and the dual-channel LSI53C1030, and is designed to double the data-transfer speed of current Ultra160 SCSI technology. The Antares HBA represents the fourth generation of SCSI HBAs in the market based on LSI Logic silicon.
The P0078 enterprise-quality HBA supports 64-bit/133MHz PCI-X, and the PCI 2.2 standard. Designed for optimal performance on both Solaris and Linux servers and workstations, the P0078 should support packetized SCSI transfers, grouped commands, messages and status bytes at full data-transfer speeds, reducing the protocol overhead.
The single-channel LSI53C1020 controller and dual-channel LSI53C1030 controller use the LSI Logic Fusion-MPT architecture to achieve the Ultra320 SCSI performance specifications. This architecture should not only provide the horsepower for industry leading performance of the LSI53C1020 and LSI53C1030 but make it possible for LSI Logic to add new features such as the LSI Logic optional Integrated Mirroring capability, which provides fault tolerance at Ultra320 SCSI performance without the cost of a full-blown RAID controller.
