Sendmail Tuesday launched a suite of e-mail management products: Mailstream Flow Control Filter, which controls inbound and outbound message traffic; Sendmail Intelligent Inbox, which manages messages on a per-user, site-wide and domain basis; and Mailstream Anti-spam Solution, the vendor's latest anti-spam product.
Flow Control Filter 1.0, which is part of the Sendmail Mailstream Manager product line, enables administrators to throttle the amount of e-mail moving into or out of the network, and from or to the Internet. Settings can be defined to limit connections from problem domains, control messaging traffic to specific time intervals, and detect and prevent against denial of service and address harvesting attacks.
Intelligent Inbox 2.0, which is part of the Sendmail Mailcenter product line, enables administrators and end users to create personal delivery filters, manage password and vacation announcement settings, and augment spam filtering with blacklist and whitelist spam-handling actions.
Mailstream Anti-spam Solution 2.0 is designed to provide an integrated and comprehensive approach to spam filtering. It combats spam messages at both the perimeter and user inbox levels. The solution incorporates Flow Control, selected Intelligent Inbox capabilities, and Cloudmark's Authority. The Sendmail Directory Service houses the individual site and domain filtering rules as well as end-user provisioning, and password and authentication information.
Pricing for Mailstream Anti-spam Solution starts at $7.60 per user for 5,000 users. Also for 5,000 users, Flow Control Filter starts at $2.50 per user, and Intelligent Inbox at $2.45 per user.
All products are available for immediate purchase and shipment to enterprises already using open source Sendmail software.
Egenera announced Tuesday that release 3.0 of its BladeFrame system has passed EMC's certfication tests to be E-Lab Tested, rendering the blade server system fully interoperable with EMC Symmetrix and CLARiiON CX networked storage systems.
The E-Lab Tested qualification process is a series of functionality and reliability tests that demonstrate the interoperability of all components in a multivendor information storage network.
In Egenera's case, it means that EMC will fully support configurations in which Symmetrix or CLARiiON CX storage systems are used with BladeFrame.
"Combining EMC's Storage Area Network (SAN) technology with the BladeFrame Processing Area Network (PAN) architecture creates pooled resources that can be allocated to applications as needed, quantifiably improving utilization. The E-Lab Tested qualification assures customers that EMC will fully support both its Symmetrix and CLARiiON platforms in the BladeFrame environment, making the promise of next-generation computing even more compelling," explained Susan Davis, vice president of product marketing and management at Egenera.
The Data Center Markup Language (DCML) Organization strengthened its ranks this week with the addition of 10 new members. Amphus, Aperture Technologies, Collation, Connectria, Evident Software, F5 Networks, Invio, OSA Technologies, Rendition Networks, and Vieo have joined the original 25, which include, Akamai Technologies, BEA Systems, Computer Associates, Euclid, NetIQ, and Tripwire.
Initiated by Opsware and EDS last month, the DCML Organization has charged itself with simplifying data center management and delivering a foundation for utility computing. It plans to do so by bringing greater operational efficiencies and increased visibility into data center environments, and reducing the time and cost to implement strategic IT initiatives, such as consolidation, migrations, disaster recovery, application capacity management, IT policy management, and data center planning.
The first working group session is scheduled for later this month in California. The working group meeting will serve as a springboard for the consortium's efforts in further evolving the DCML specification.
The DCML Organization is open to all companies interested in enabling standards-based IT system interoperability, operations simplicity, and utility computing in data centers.
