Instant messaging (IM) vendor Parlano Monday released version 6.0 of its MindAlign IM server. The server was designed with financial services institutions in mind, and the enhancements in v6.0 are meant to reflect this.
MindAlign is an intelligent and persistent enterprise IM solution. It combines multiparty chat, IM, and presence management in a secure, scalable, and fault tolerant package. Parlano packages MindAlign as both a premise-based and a managed service solution.
Presence management is one of the key areas to be bolstered. Version 6.0 offers support for presence and one-to-one IM capabilities from third-party products, including Microsoft Office Live Communications Server.
Version 6.0's enhancements are focused on the application back end, and, as a result, MindAlign offers souped-up system management, administration, and control. Scalability has been increased ten-fold, Parlano Spokesperson Chris Rechtsteiner told ServerWatch.
Other specific improvements in the iteration of MindAlign are complete end-user provisioning and administration through Microsoft Active Directory. Enterprisewide login, authorization, and authentication are available out of the box. LDAP support is also available, Rechtsteiner said.
MindAlign v6.0 uses server-side APIs and integrates with third-party systems responsible for enforcing communications controls across "Chinese Walls." To better meet compliance regulations within the financial services industry, v6.0 integrates with permission, enforcement, and control applications.
The MindAlign Web Client has also gotten a makeover. It now can run as a Java applet in a Web browser, as a stand-alone application, or as a portlet within a third-party portal. It can integrate with both real-time group discussion forums and private one-to-one IM sessions within other thin-client applications or portals, and conversations can be embedded in portals, Rechtsteiner said. The MindAlign Web Client delivers the advanced intelligent message management, real-time notification, and alerts capabilities of Microsoft Windows 32-bit client for thin-client environments.
Parlano was first founded in UBS in 2000. It was spun out on its own in 2003. The privately held company has 25 employees. It claims 35 customers and 135,000 end users, nearly all of which are using MindAlign on the trading desk, Rechtsteiner said. Current MindAlign customers include ABN AMRO, ANZ, Group1 Trading, Standard Chartered Bank, UBS, and West LB.
