Dell Closes on Cloud Computing Wyse Technology Acquisition

Dell looks to attain a leadership position in the thin client and cloud computing markets with the purchase.

Dell today announced it has completed its acquisition of Wyse Technology, an industry-leading cloud client computing company.  The Round Rock, Texas-based company is looking to attain dominant position in the desktop virtualization market, and the Wyse acquisition is key to helping Dell offer true end-to-end IT solutions for its customers and partners.

According to the company, the Dell Wyse portfolio combined with current Dell desktop virtualization offerings, enterprise-grade data center products such as servers and storage, and Dell's services division will provide customers and partners with a single end-to-end IT vendor that can match the full range of cloud computing and desktop virtualization needs.

Dell's existing offerings include Desktop Virtualization Solution Simplified and Desktop Virtualization Solution Enterprise, and the Dell Wyse solution portfolio will feature industry-leading thin, zero and cloud client computing solutions with advanced management, desktop virtualization and cloud software supporting desktops, laptops and next-generation mobile devices. Dell Wyse has more than 180 patents, both issued and pending, covering its solutions, software and differentiated intellectual property.

Dell plans to preserve Wyse's channel offerings and all existing Wyse channel partners will be eligible for the company's PartnerDirect Program. Dell's mission is to combine the best of both companies' channel deal registration programs, extend the new deal registration program to all partners and introduce a program in which partners can grow and nurture a customer relationship.
